Logistics provider Borzo has announced the appointment of Darryl Dias as the new country head for its operations in India. This move comes as the company plans to enhance its presence in major cities like Bengaluru and Delhi, while concentrating on profitable growth and maintaining strong unit economics.
Borzo currently operates in 23 cities across India, primarily offering intracity logistics services to individuals and small to medium enterprises (SMEs). Although Mumbai is the dominant market, accounting for 75-80% of its domestic volume, the company is eager to deepen its reach in other metropolitan areas.
Expansion Plans
In discussing the expansion strategy, Dias emphasized the importance of maintaining profitable growth. He stated, "We’ll continue to hold our foot here, but we also want to expand into growth cities such as Delhi and Bangalore in the next few quarters... our focus would be to maintain profitable growth by improving our unit economics."
Market Position
India represents a significant portion of Borzo's global operations, contributing 65% to its gross merchandise value (GMV) and 75% of total deliveries. Under Dias's leadership, the India business unit will aim to strengthen its position in the on-demand delivery sector.
Current Operations
Borzo currently boasts a network of 40,000 active delivery partners each month. Dias highlighted the company's leadership in the rapid delivery segment, stating, "We are the largest when it comes to this segment right now. We’re just going to put blinkers on, focus on execution, make sure that it’s profitable growth and scale without burning cash."
Leadership Background
Darryl Dias brings 15 years of experience in operations, strategy, and product development to his new role. He previously co-founded the electric vehicle company Magenta Mobility, adding valuable expertise to Borzo's leadership team.
As Borzo navigates its expansion plans, the competition remains strong with other players in the market, including Porter, Delhivery Direct, and Rapido Parcel.
